We live, work and travel full-time in a motorhome while exploring the USA. A friend bought me a Lonely Planet guide to road trips in the Pacific North West last year and we loved and used it so much we keep buying them for different areas of the country. The books are very well laid out - visually appealing with lots of color photographs, color coding and excellent driving / walking trip maps and suggestions. Also love the trip highlights section which we find to be mostly very accurate - only a couple of places we felt should have been highlights that weren't marked as such by Lonely Planet... This is our go-to book for visiting new areas, handy for trip planning in advance or on-the-go (which is mostly what we end up doing). Much of our preferred way of seeing new places is by driving in our MINI convertible, so Road Trips and beautiful highways/back roads are the things that most appeal to us - this book hits the spot.
