Thinking about moving to Maine? Here is a book you should consider reading. Author Victoria Doudera made the move herself some years ago. Her book, "Moving To Maine", has gone through a couple of editions. The most recent was just published in 2015, so the information provided in the book is up to date.
The author takes a methodical approach to describing what's involved in moving to Maine. There is an extended introduction to Maine and its unique residents, but the heart of the narrative talks about jobs, housing, the weather, culture, family life, taxes, and registering automobiles, to name a few topics. At just under 200 pages, this book can't exhaust the subject, but there is plenty on offer here to think about. The author is clearly in love with the state, but that doesn't translate into a relentless sales pitch. Maine is different, but it seems to offer something that people value enough to keep moving to the state to get next to. No pictures or maps, unfortunately. Highly recommended as a planning resource.
