Lifestyle Illustrations of the 1960s Paperback – 8 May 2014 by Rian Hughes & David Roach (Carlton Books)

This is quite simply a book that should be on the shelf of every graphic artist/illustrator.

It is an excellent reference, resource and inspirational repository of classic illustration from the period; there are over 1000 images - mainly in colour - rendered in a wide variety of styles and media. The material is mainly drawn from women's magazines, advertising and fashion/lifestyle publications from 1960-1969. The selection is international, but British and American work is predominant.
There is a brief, four page section of biographies for about a couple of dozen of the better-known illustrators and a full index of artists/artwork at the back.
A preface and short but informative introduction are the only other texts - the bulk of the volume is made up of the illustrations.

A pleasure to browse through, I'm sure this book will be have appeal not just for artists, but anyone with an interest in the 60s, be it fashion, vintage magazines or lifestyle of the later "Madmen" era. Check out the "look inside" option if its available.
Illustration is now dominated by computer graphics; this is a fine collection demonstrating how it was done using traditional media by some of the the most skilled and imaginative commercial artists of their day.
