The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child Gift Slipcase Board book – September 25, 2014 by Julia Donaldson (Author), Axel Scheffler (Illustrator) (Macmillan Children's Books)
I ordered these for my son after he fell in love with them after stumbling upon the Netflix cartoon. I saw other reviews that there is an Americanized version of the story. This version is British (stamped on the back with a price in pounds) and follows the dialogue of the cartoon very closely. There is a lot of text on each page so for my 20m old, it is a bit of a stretch to hold his attention. For older children, especially those familiar with the cartoon, it should be even better as their attention span is longer. Since my guy is still young and not very gentle with books, thus I was very happy to find these available as the board book version. The books are very well constructed. They have only been here a short time, but seem as though they will be very durable. Their case is adorable with cutouts on each side to showcase a picture from the book cover.
These are the original British language books, to my knowledge. The dialogue matches to the videos, and both our children are delighted with them: the toddler who acts them out, and the baby who looks at the pictures and chews on the corners. For those people unfamiliar with the stories, they are delightful rhyming tales that I would call must-haves for a growing child's bookshelf. I urge you to get right into the fun by reading them aloud with character voices, using your best British accents.
This foiled boxset contains board book editions of THE GRUFFALO and THE GRUFFALO'S CHILD - the two award-winning, bestselling stories that have been delighting children and adults the world over for more than a decade. Created by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the most successful picture book partnership ever, and translated into over fifty languages, these two modern classics are now available as board books together in one beautifully designed box - the perfect Gruffalo gift.
