This is a good book but there is something vital missing. Of the twenty-nine psychiatrists and mental health professionals, none has dared to directly speak the truth. What we, as readers want to know is simple: Is Donald Trump mentally ill? All of the contributors have danced around the answer without one of them directly diagnosing Donald Trump. Instead, they have all made excuses why they cannot, should not, or are unqualified to diagnose the President.
True, they vilify him as being bad, incompetent, inept, immoral, obnoxious, and ignorant. Unanimously they all conclude he is dangerous and shouldn’t be President. But we already knew that when we bought the book and started reading it. What we want to know is which mental illnesses does he have which will qualify him to be removed from office using the Twenty-fifth Amendment. Yet none of them directly answer this question.
So I will. I am a Psychologist, but more importantly a critic of the psychiatric process of classifying and diagnosing mental disorders. Any reasonably intelligent adult can read the bible of the psychiatric profession, the DSM, and easily determine that Donald Trump has a severe case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He also has a severe case of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder.) More importantly, he has Anti-social Personality Disorder, which is the same as saying he is a sociopath. In layman’s terms, Trump doesn’t give a damn about anybody but Trump. It is more difficult to say whether Trump is crazy and delusional (psychotic or schizophrenic) meaning he is out of touch with reality; or whether, like Richard Nixon, he is a Machiavellian tyrant, who is aware of reality and knows he is lying. Trump is either lying or delusional. Either way, he is unfit to be President of the United States.
The reason the twenty-nine chosen experts are afraid to diagnose Trump is that they don’t want to expose the truth that you don’t have to be a psychiatrist, psychologist, or mental health expert to determine which mental illness someone has, because mental disorders are not scientific, real, bona illnesses; they are voted-on categories of generally objectionable human behavior.
Diagnosing is a game psychiatrists play and get paid plenty to do so. So they don’t want anyone else knowing their esoteric rules, playing their game, or exposing how arbitrary the whole process is. But refusing to go out on a limb and diagnose Trump—ostensibly because they haven’t worked with him as a patient face-to-face—is a chicken-shit excuse to cover up that diagnosing is only a game.
At least these contributors say he is dangerous. Yet so do many others. But by refusing to condemn Trump with the specific disorders listed in the DSM that he manifests in Spades, they have not done nearly enough to have this dangerous unstable tyrant removed from power.
