How a Seed Grows (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 1) Paperback – August 4, 2015 by Helene J. Jordan (Author), Loretta Krupinski (Illustrator) (Holiday House) (IBRChildrensBooks)
This book's big, colorful illustrations and simple language do a superb job of explaining subjects such as plant reproduction, seed dispersal, pollen transference, and seed germination. Although intended for a younger audience, I read this book aloud to my fourth grade students to quickly build their background knowledge.
The language is easy enough for her to sound out the words with a fairly good flow when she comes across unfamiliar ones. The story and illustrations are cute as well as educational, and inspired the right questions about seeds, growing things and gardening. It was the perfect companion to our project that day, which was to plant an indoor herb garden
