The official history of the Oscars is one of my favorite books. When I was a young teen, I would use very hot summer days or very cold winter afternoons to trudge to the library and settle in the reference section where I would read the weekly copies of Variety and, eventually...always...find the copy of 40 Years of Oscar. I would study it and study it. Later, those hot and cold days would result in me becoming the trivia expert at Oscar night parties! Robert Osborne's new book is a worthy successor to the previous volumes. I keep it at hand in my TV room. It's a BIG book, no doubt. If you are a fan of film and the Oscars it's a must have.
85 years of Oscar is an opulent gift for the classic movie fan from classic movie fans’ number one fan Robert Osborn. This very large, very heavy book is a history of the Oscars from their start in 1929 until 2013. It’s the type of book you curl up with at the end of a long hard day and get caught up in the magic of the movies. Not a dry history book, but full of facts about the people and the times with lots of pictures. At no time does the information become dry and boring. This book takes the magic night that happens once a year and makes it last. I enjoy seeing classic Hollywood when I was young and even before I was born. The Oscars have again passed into history for another year but there is still time to enjoy this book and Amazon has the best price anywhere. One down side to the book is it is very large and heavy so make sure you have a good book prop to balance it on. I wish Robert would write a book on classic Hollywood, just facts and less pictures. This book is a must for the “classic Movie fan” as Robert would say. So curl up in your favorite reading spot, don’t forget the book prop, and enjoy this opulent gift of a book.
