The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms and was adopted on December 15, 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights. The Supreme Court has ruled that the right belongs to individuals for self-defense, while also ruling that the right is not unlimited and does not prohibit long-standing bans from the possession "of firearms by felons or the mentally ill" of firearms or similar devices. State and local governments are limited to the same extent as the federal government from infringing this right.
The Second Amendment was based partially on the right to keep and bear arms in English common law and was influenced by the English Bill of Rights of 1689. Sir William Blackstone described this right as an auxiliary right, supporting the natural rights of self-defense and resistance to oppression, and the civic duty to act in concert in defense of the state.
#Duped is a well written book and an easy read for anyone interested in a concise explanation of the major arguments supporting the Second Amendment. Mark Smith is a true expert in the laws and culture surrounding the Second Amendment and presents fact-based arguments to support the position advocated in this book. Unlike many books I've read on the subject (both in favor and against the Second Amendment) #Duped makes truly impressive use of footnotes, thus allowing the reader to view the raw data that Mark Smith is basing his arguments upon.
#Duped shows how the anti-gun movement capitalizes on the youth and emotion of the #NeverAgainers and gives you the arguments you need to debunk the gun grabbers’ biggest myths.
While the nation grieves over tragedies like the Parkland school shooting, the anti-gun lobby jumps into action. They exploit such tragedies to advance their political agenda.
The gun grabbers—with the help of the mainstream media—trot out a few traumatized young survivors of the shootings and hail them as the brave leaders of a new anti-gun movement, speaking truth to power.
It’s a cynical ploy. And it works: the all-out campaign has put gun owners and Americans who support the right to bear arms on the defensive.
But you can fight back for your rights and freedoms.
New York Times bestselling author and constitutional attorney Mark W. Smith provides gun owners and defenders of the Second Amendment with the intellectual ammunition to counter the arguments of the anti-gun zealots and exposes how the gun grabbers exploit the kids of the #NeverAgain movement.
