The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee (Fourth Estate / Scribner)

Despite being a science book written on an extremely serious disease i.e Cancer, this book is a page turner. All credit goes to the writer who has not only done extensive research to come up with this masterpiece but also given insight of how Medical profession also needs marketing in order to get the much required funding for research in the wider interest of the larger society.

The disease which evokes fear in all has been given a tough fight by the scientist community over a period of time and the war is still ongoing. As a reader, your heart melt when you go through the details of experimentation stages of Chemotherapy on various patients in different stages of life.

In some parts of the world, it is still considered taboo to talk about the disease and as a result larger section of the society never participates in the discussion. It would be great to come out of social stigma and be open. You never know someone may help you out or vice versa. Employers, Health Insurance companies must spread awareness at a larger scale. Western countries have done a fair bit in this aspect but rest of the world is still lagging behind.

Every human adapt to the different type of Cancer differently. Considering that the doses are so strong and heavy it does takes a toll on the individual and the prolonged treatment test your will. Try visiting cancer patient's ward and you get a reality shock. It shakes your fundamental belief.

It would have been great if the oncologist society of all countries comes together in finding a cure for this disease for the benefit of the humankind. Unlike other disease this one breaks the entire family and not just the patient emotionally & economically both. It has been said that Cancer treatment is the "best business" by many. I do believe that pharmaceutical companies should come forward and find out a economical way.

Live Life, Love Life. Spread Happiness. Stay away from negativity.
