Not For Parents China: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know (Lonely Planet Kids) Paperback by Lonely Planet (Lonely Press)

We took our three kids to China for a 10 day tour. It was amazing and easy to be with a tour group. However, we came back through Beijing on our way home without any help with a tour company, and this book saved us from making a big mistake.

When we got off the plane to look for our hotel shuttle, we were immediately pounced on by all of these people claiming they would help us get to the hotel. Their aggressiveness was starting to scare us, when my son, who had read the book before our trip, reminded me that they were "black taxi" drivers. They get unsuspecting tourists to follow them away from the free and safe hotel shuttles. Who knows where we would have ended up or how much money the ride would have cost us. Even once we made the decision to get away from them, they got more aggressive and even followed us out to the shuttle stop. I was so glad I had gotten this book, and it is small enough to take it with you on your trip.
