The Fateful Apple: Foreword by: Dr. Keith D. Leonard Paperback ,
by Venus Thrash , Urban poets & lyricists

The Fateful Apple by Venus Thrash resides at the merging point of the uninhibited, strong collective Feminine and the Post-Colonial aftermath of a ‘His’ tory that unravels itself as ‘Her’ story. The pages invoke a many-faced Muse that seems to cause havoc on the interweave of well-chosen, arrow-laced words the Poet spends to reclaim her justified place in the arena of Identity and in doing so, she not only writes back in favor of her own being but also in favor of the un-burdening of Women.

At first glance, this book of poetry appears to uphold the traits of a battlefield, analyzing and responding to a legacy of multi-level Colonialism: from agents of Gender control to racial issues to issues of fractured emotions and use, abuse of Power and Knowledge. The Feminine is breaking off all her chains to question and answer back: This dawn of rebellion has a different color, that which has chosen to rise above everything yet has forgotten nothing. It still carries the wounds inflicted on its heart and derives its strength from across the world to become One. Pain not only validates the existence of the Feminine but also transforms and brings a new kind of Joycean epiphany that holds the key to Absolute freedom.

Realization, resistance, and happiness all stem from the recognition and then rejection of Otherization and displacement at various levels of the psyche that explores internal and external arenas as extensions of the battlefield of opposite forces that build and break the Feminine. The music of this kind of poetry recalls the chanting mode of rhythm, that which soothingly and beautifully seeks to cleanse the scars of a sky long afflicted with a lyrical sorrow. Words in these poems speak in a very direct, powerful voice and aggressively pursues the desires, insecurities, desperation and eagerness for true love along with the futility of spent affections common to all women at all stages of their lives. Do read this collection of Poetry for it comes from the depths of a true heart and it attracts the reader to listen as it speaks without fetters, without fear.
