This book is a parody on mountaineering expedition. Right from the beginning of the journey until the very end it is full of wits and humor although written in old British style.
Team members who were part of the expedition couldn't have better nicknames and behaved silly throughout the expedition. Entire narration is full of spoof and scary encounters. Binder as a lead, kept his team going and one must give credit to Bowman that even after the wit he was able to convey that any expedition such as climbing the Rum Doodle(Mt. Everest) essentially requires team work with lots of planning and decision making. Rest others were keeps falling off the track, fall ill, hurt themselves but the journey goes on and so is the humor.
Every small character is given his due importance and the reader gets a feel that in a high profile climb who all gets the credit and the rest just fades away. Writer here refers to the Sherpa community(Porters) who does the manual labor and doesn't get their due , forget the limelight.
Somewhere in the middle the narration turned a bit dry, slow and that's the only loose angle in the entire book. Overall, readers who like old style writing and humor will be for a delight. Rest may not be able to get the wit in the way it is meant to be.
This book will remind readers of Catch 22 by Joseph Heller having written in similar way, full of satire and homor. Rum Doodle can be equated with Mt. Everest or the like
